It was completely awful... I'm not sure there are any other opinions that you would get from normal people...

I think it was bad.
In what frame of reference are you asking the question? Did the holocaust occur or not? There are very few serious historians who doubt that it happened. The Nazis really did put over ten million people to death in various concentration camps and via massacres. Jews, Gays, Gypsies were the main targets, but other peoples were slaughtered as well.
