The oil ight comes on intermittenly on my Volvo S80 and I get an electronic message that says "no oil pressure. Stop ASAP". Needless to say I stopped and checked the oil. I have plently (It's at oreven maybe a little above the top line on the dipstick). When I restart it goes away and will occaisionally return when the car is idling in gear on the road.

Is this just a phantom? Or a problem with the electrical syatem? Or fo I really have a problem?

i would have that looked at before you possibly destroy your engine put a oil gauge where your sending unit is to see how much oil pressure you have if its good even when warmed up replace your sending unit if not it could be that your screen is plugged on your oil pickup tube in the oil pan, best fix for that is to pull it out and take a look at it and clean the screen if not you could try flushing the engine with a little diesel fuel on auto stores have a motor flush could try that other than that it could be a worn out oil pump to bad bearings

Does this car have a cast aluminum oil pan? What I've seen most of is when these are installed in the factory, there is excess silicone. When the silicone dries, it globs up a bit. Later on down the road (say several years), it falls into the oil pan and clogs the oil pump pickup screen. To remedy this, drain the oil and then fill engine (oil pan) with deisel fuel. Start and run for 3-5 minutes and drain the deisel fuel out of the oil pan and repeat this process. Then, replace the fuel filter and fill with recommended oil. The deisel fuel should break the silicone loose from the screen and it should come out of the engine when you drain it the first or second flush. Good luck.

Your oil sending unit may be bad. It's just a switch that cost 20 dollars or less. A good Haynes manual should tell you where it's located and how to replace it.

i own a repair shop, and it probably has a bad sending unit on it causing it to do this ,you might want to have it checked to be sure, because there is a small possibility that it may be having oil pressure problems..good luck i hope this help,s.
