Looks like we are in the process of finding that out. Read the Patriot Act, Homeland Security Bill, Military Commissions Act, among others, and tell me we have a valid constitution left. Just wait till martial law is declared, and the military, and secret police start rounding up people to fill all those secret concentration camps they're building for us.

Neither Liberal or Conservative - just a world filled with misery and unhappiness. A place where any greatness the United States once had (or would have had) would be completely lost. We'd all long for the days when we could squabble over intangible issues such as stem cell research and gay marriage - instead being forced to focus on one issue - survival.

First thing that comes to my mind is; The pursuit of life, liberty and happiness would have a lot different meaning unless you had your 12 gage with you at all times.

We would be in a much smaller nation, possibly with some of those areas (states) re-instituted as colonies of their nations of origin. We certainly would never have moved beyond the Mississippi.
