Please don't think I'm being racist here, guys, I'm just interested to know.

Often when I post questions I get completely useless answers from folks in the US. Not because they're stupid (though some of them might be:-) but because our cultures are different and you sometimes don't understand when we're being funny, when we're being serious, and when we're being downright rude!

What I want to know is - do you feel the same about us? Do you sometimes wish we would just get lost and not bother answering your questions?

I find the differences most acute in religion and politics subjects. Do you find that too?

This is a genuine question - no offence of any kind is intended.

I know where my answers come from by checking the answerer. If their profile says they come from NY, I tend to assume they're American. Also you can tell from language (e.g.mom v mum, $ v £) and the types of questions people are asking and answering (i.e. mainly US or UK matters of interest).

Marvin my mate, they don't understand. Their culture wasn't founded before things like christianity. Stonehenge to them is a theme park.

Karen - when an american answers it's so obvious that the tears literally run down our legs. You don't understand that either, do you?

To be honest, I never take into account the nationality of the answerers. The only times I can see it being relevant is in political questions, which I don't ask, or in questions that for some reason are otherwise region-specific. Online, I think it's probably just as easy to misnterpret another American's tone as it is to misinterpret an answer from anywhere else.

no, not at all. I realize that we are 2 countries separated by a common language. there are many differences, but also many similarities.
as big as the USA is, there are many differences in culture and language within our OWN country. I never think someone is stupid because their culture, religion, language is different. that's what makes these forums interesting, and educational. don't we all want to learn from and about each other?

I must admit I'm confused by this since I think I'm on Yahoo UK & Ireland and yet I keep getting people from the USA answering.

They seem quite polite once you correct their spelling and grammar though.

And sometimes it's just cos they don't know about what you're ttalking about. Like I asked a question about the bumps and got a ton of answers saying "never heard of the bumps" "what are the bumps?" "are they pimples?" that kind of thing. Tsk tsk.

British answers do annoy me. The answers that I have seen from the British are so extremely snobby, as if they are MUCH better educated than Americans. Maybe you Brits should consider that not all of us are lazy, McDonald loving hicks. Oh and by the way, we didn't elect Bush, the electoral college did!
