I contend it's been replaced by "design". Anatomy, perspective, knowledge of light and shadow, etc, has all been thrown out with the bathwater in the computer age. Hardly anyone can really DRAW anymore. Agree? Disagree? Let me know what you think.

I would have to agree as far as the working population goes. Today, one need not know how to pick up a pencil and render something. Talent means a lot less these days. Although it still takes an artistic, creative and special mind to produce an idea that sells :0)

Never.. You cant illustrate with the computer... you can only digitize and manipulate supplied or existing photos. I still draw everyday in my job, though I am a rarity. Put You can amaze people looking for artist by showing them yo actually know how to use a pencil. Plus it helps loads with anything you do with Photoshop... Gives you and extra leg up on shadowing, how light would affect a rendered image and so on. Not dead at all.

Nope. I am happy to say that my skills as an illustrator are in constant use. It is my strength and it is what makes the rest of my work in printing work as well as it does. I understand what I want to accomplish when I use computer graphics programs. I am so aware of lighting and texture that I can modify photos realistically. Illustration is a very special skill that has been impacted by computers, but not replaced.

See the web? - digitised illustrations

See a little gif png picture - scanned and digitised.

Illustration is a damn sight easier to do than to make each little pixel by the grid.

I'd be damned to design any graphics dot by dot.
