Back in middle school I created a machine that used batteries to cause a magnetic to react and pick a toy car. I had to use a lever to turn on the battery. I'm not really sure how to set it up, but you'd need a voltage battery with the springs that stick out, wiring, and a magnet. You can look up online how to make it work exactly. That's how I did it (from the internet)

For school, I remember I built up (well, my dad did, really), a small fan powered by solar power. I bought a solar cell, and hooked it up to a small button and then to a small plastic fan built up using a toy-car motor. This was almost ten years ago.

You can try something like that... people love machines that are not only cute, but also useful. (hot summer days!)
You can probably use a screw somewhere in there as well.

A gravity pump it is just a small rubber hose. put a large glass of water up higher than the empty one. syphin the hose takes practice. to get the water into the lower glass. its cool and works well all it is is a hose. but it has a function so it is a machine.cool or what.
