Hi there. My mum turned 60 in July. My Dad and her separated almost 3 years ago as he was having an affair. She is over the worst I think but I know she gets lonely at times. Im looking for people around her own age to chat to, share experiences, and be her friends. So she is not so lonely and has something to look forward to. Are you looking for a friend? Would you be interested in taking the time to chat via e-mail to get to know a new friend. I would really appreciate any volunteers. Ive tried to find chat rooms for her age group so she can get to know people but I cant seem to find any that arent for dating and marriage! Can anyone recommend any? Thanks

I really feel for your mum, the same happened to my mum but she was lucky enough to meet someone else. I really wouldn't reccommend chat rooms. at the end of the day, you don't really know that the person you are talking to is who they say they are. Imagine if your mum got really friendly with someone and close enough to talk to then found out this person was not who they said they were, she would feel so let down and emotionally would really set her back if she is just getting her life back together.
There is nothing better than getting out and meeting real people.
It's just getting up the courage to do it. Many towns have friendship clubs where single people usually the older generation go, they organise days out, and also have varied activities to learn new hobbies.
You sound like a wonderful caring daughter, could you spare a night a week to take her to bingo or some other night out where she can meet new people and when she gets to know a few will feel confident enough to go there alone, knowing she has made new friends to enjoy the time out with.

What a lovely daughter you are, ask your mum to come on to yahoo answers she will be able to answer any of the questions. Think it is a good site as we dont know each other but can chat away without getting involved.

Hi. I'm 40, but I'll be happy to be your mom's friend. She can email me at love2hugu2003@yahoo.com. It is so great that you care about her as much as you do.
You asked about chatrooms. There are groups on Yahoo that she might like to join, to meet others with the same interests. I'm a big-time postcard collector, so am in a bunch of postcard groups. This is just one example.

It's a shot in the dark but have you tried Saga? It's for over 50's and isn't anything like the twin sets and pearls image it used to have. Log on to their web site and see what they have to offer. God luck, it's nice to see a daughter who cares so much for her mums well being.

this is a tough one, does your mum work? has she got time to socialise? does she want friends yet? I also get lonely, but I am happy with my own space for now. Try not to push so hard, she will find her own way

hi have you tried 'just for you', the single travellers website and also look at saga holidays and their website and magazine, that deals with mature people such as your mother who are looking for friendships, also what about social clubs, what interests or hobbies does your mother have? she could join the clubs she likes that are online also, i sure your mum will find something, just give her time and try not to worry.
peace

I'm sorry, I can't help you on this, but I read your question and it really touched me - I hope my daughter's as thoughtful as you when she gets older.
