If you have a bad back (like I do!) I highly recomment the ERGO or a MeiTai. A sling, like the hip hammock, or Maya Wrap is great, but will really hurt you if you already have spinal problems.
I love my ergo and still use it with my 21 month-old. We have been using it since he was 3 months old. it goes up to 60#s.
It is spendy, but has amazing resale value and can be used for all the babies you may ever have.

Hi! I used the Hip sling, amazing! I loved it, it was comortable, and I was able to use it up to about 6 months. I believe at the time my 6 month old was probably about 40 lbs. Hope this helps! -Janet

I have the Platex one and I like it, but since I have severe back and neck problems I am not able to use it. My husband ends up having to pack our son in it. They are good up to I think 45 pounds.
