I always wondered if younger photos of an actor in a movie come from that actor's own photos collection?

for example, in the movie Soul Food, the opening credits were a montage with younger pictures of the character before showing the character in present day.

it all depends. If there is a role in the movie for a younger version of that character, they would obviously have pictures of the person playing the younger character. Also it depends on what the actor looked like when they were younger. Every director has a look to the movie they want, and if the actor younger doesnt fit that look they may go with someone elses picture that is better suited for it.
