i own a repair shop,and usually a few hours at the most ,and if your replacing it with a new one or rebuilt one it wont take that long.maybe an hour at the most,that's how long it usually takes me,good luck,i hope this help,s.

On most cars this is a very simple job and a lot of people do it themselves. For a trained mechanic it should only take 30 mins. - an hour. Again that is on most cars, on some there is so much stuff in the way that it can take longer to do.
As for cost most American named cars will run $70 - $100 for it; foreign cars will be about twice that. The total cost should be $150 - $250 at most.

first guy is right but why fix an alternator when a rebiult one costs 70bucks and you get 20 bucks back when you return the old one

it depends on the kind of car and who you have doing it. usually it shouldn't take longer than an hour.
