Are pets allowed on the subway?

This may sound like a stupid question, but are dogs and pets in general allowed on the subway? I saw a commercial where a woman had her dog on the subway and I was curious.

It probably depends on the city. Usually, its just guide dogs for the blind & A small pet in a carrier.

they allow rats so why not dogs

not on mine, I liked them of serrano ham and cheese, or broiled chicken fajitas.
