Plastic cups and shoes are both designed by artists. So are bridges, cereal boxes, chairs... and some of these things can be designed with enough inspiration that they can touch you deeply.
Does it move you? Art should move you. If not, it's craft and engineering (but it's still functional art).

Yes indeed. I've said before that art is the cornerstone of our society and that everything has a base in art. That shoe you wear had to go through a design faze and wether it was done on paper or a computer it still had to go through the creative process hence art. Maybe not in the truest sence of the word but it still qualifies.
I know it's still just a shoe but yes anything can be art.

Many people believe that there is art everywhere, that the world is a beautiful place, that everything has a deeper meaning...
And everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, I believe that it's great to have that outlook on life, as long as it's not taken too far. No one can tell you, "That broken glass is art. Can't you tell?" If you walk into an art gallery and see photos of things you don't view as art, that's fine. Walk to the exhibits that interest you. What I'm trying to say is: There's no set boundary between art and normalcy. If it's intended as art and explained as art, then who's to say it's not? If it makes you inspired, then that's yours to say and no one else's. But even if it's just a regular tennis shoe, someone would say it was art. Just go with your instincts and believe what you want.

No, In my opinion modern art is a waste of time. I went to the Modern Art Museum in NY City. Wow, thats all I can say. They had a huge canvas painted blue, and it was called "Green" I'm sorry, but that is just dumb. Half the stuff there wouldn't be possible without the museum and by that I mean, it relied on the walls, the roof, the floor, etc, it wasn't it's own piece of art.

yes. If you are an artist you'll see everything with your artistic eye. If you don't have an artistic eye you'll not understand.

Yes, anything can be art. (Thanks R. Mutt) But not everything is good art.
