Many therapeutic-grade essential oils have strong antiseptic and regenerative properties for healing skin, muscle damage, etc., such as lavender, peppermint, melaleuca (tea tree), among many many others. Be cautious if you choose to buy some and make sure the oils you buy are therapeutic-grade. I can provide you with oils if you're interested.

Or you can try a homeopathic remedy called arnica for pain and healing that you can probably get at your local health food store.

I believe you mean inguinal.
I had one repaired last December ('05) on my right side and left side was repaired in February ('06). Mine healed very well in about 6 - 8 weeks. Healing takes longer in older persons and I'm 71, was 70 when it was accomplished. He just has to take it easy and not lift anything heavy and let nature heal it on it's own.
