Well, first off, he was a purely fictional character. He was not like Johnny Appleseed, a real person who became shrouded in myth.
That being said, he did some pretty awesome stuff. He was enormous. When he was born it took 17 storks to carry him. His footsteps along with those of his giant blue ox, Babe, created all of the lakes in Minnesota. Other tales vary by source, but many have their base in the "Ti-Jean" tales of French Canada from the 1600's, or other French-Canadian lumberjack folklore.

Paul was an average student who took on a job he hated and eventually became an alcoholic dying at age 47 of cirrossis of the liver...sad about Paul.
