I am leaving the country and want to trash my computer. How do I locate the hard drive so I can remove it and destroy it?

I wish people who answer this question would stop assuming that because someone wants to destroy their hard drive means the have illegal porn on it.
Grow up.

Put the Hard Drive in the Microwave for about 15 seconds. That's all it takes to destroy the thing.

OK it is about .5 thick and about 3 X 4 on lenght, width.there will be a flat gray cable attached to it. slide that out unplug any lead wires and smash it with a BFH. That’s a technical term for a big____hammer. Inside (assuming you grabbed the right part) you will find the remnants of a mirror like disk/s. Take those remnants and put them in a pile. Apply liberal amounts of charcoal lighting fluid and light. As it burns dance around your makeshift alter and ask the PS gods for forgiveness.

Might I be so bold as to suggest a large mallet. You don't have to resolve to violence...reformat your hard drive, that should erase things nicely, then give or sell the mac to the first person you meet on the street. Problem solved.

Looks like a metal box size of an CD and 1 cm thick, hammer will do the trick

Take a sledge to the silver metal box on the inside. Then sell the remaining on ebay or craigslist to get some of your money back

What kind of data (National Security secrets or kiddie porn) do you have to erase that would require destruction of the drive?
If you format the drive, it will erase everything, reinstalling the OS and software should over write most of the data anyway so it can't be recovered.
