It is only a tiny stud and I've never taken it out in the 4 years I've had it. When I was hired they said I could keep it in. Now a year and 1/2 later they are changing the policy. Aren't I grandfathered in or something?

Grand fathering applies only to legal issues. Employment is different. You have a very Minor problem. Think about the millions of people whose pension benefits have been slashed in spite of supposedly ironclad contracts in place while earning their retirement incomes.
Take it out for a few hours every day or find another job.

Take it out unless you want to go look for another job. Not to be opinionated (well maybe just a little), but nose rings no matter how small are very distracting. You're better off in the work place making a statement by your abilities than your nose.

my old hob wouldn't let me wear my lip ring.. i know it sucks but either just take it out for work if it wont close or get a new job.
