I think anyone going in for surgery is scared and anxious, that's very normal.

I hope that you've had a chance to discuss fully all the potential risks and benefits of the surgery, and what could happen both if you do and if you do not go ahead. Hopefully the anaesthetist and surgeon will talk to you tomorrow before your surgery to ensure that you are clear and that you're giving your informed consent. Remember that the nurses too can help answer any questions or listen to any worries that you have.

Good luck for tomorrow, I'll be thinking of you.

Sorry to hear that you are going to go through this operation at such a young age. Fear not....having your thyroid removed may be your best option if they have ruled out radiation treatment. I have Grave's disease (hyperthyroidism) and I have opted for medication to keep my symptoms at bay for the time being. One day though, I will have to "kill" my thyroid because its something that may do more harm later on in life. Anyhow, please discuss ANY aprehension with your doctor before your surgery. The more you know and understand the nature of your operation the better you will feel about it. Surgery always has risks but make sure you & your doctor are in agreement in your treatment plan. Take care.

I cant give you any specific advice regarding your particular op but I wanted to remind you that all ops have some risk but the whole point of the op is that the risk of NOT having it is greater. You NEED this op and therefore you must the possible negatives to one side and deal with the positive outcome you are intending to get. Almost everyone who has this op will have the positive outcome. There is no reason you should be any different.

Good luck and try to relax as much as you can. It will help a lot.

Don't worry-
I had my first operation when i turned 20 to get my cancer tumor out
just trust in the surgeons and have then explain everything to you so you feel more comfortable and know what to expect
follow all the instructions for after the surgery so you can recover well.
You'll be fine whatever happens you'll get thru it!

Talk to people who have been there done it and bought the T- shirt.
That is, try the friends of the hospital to see who runs the Patients Association and or similar groups. Also, depending on your particular condition see if there is an association for that. I'll bet there is.

Try not to worry too much.
I wish you well.
