To many people Christmas is the "season of giving" Its that one time a year when you go out and buy presents for others. Lots of people find nothing more relaxing and pleasing thank sitting in front of a Christmas tree, drinking eggnog or hot cocoa by a fire and listening to Christmas music. I personally love carroling. I go around to local nursing homes with some friends to sing to the people who are stuck inside and away from family. There is nothing as rewarding as seeing the look on their faces! It makes the entire christmas season worth it. Its the season of giving.

Whats The Point Of Christmas

At the end of December, the days get very dark and you begin to feel particularly miserable. So you have a few days when you stop work, eat and drink a lot, then sleep it off.

OK In the modern world it doesn't have a lot of purpose. A few centuries ago, it was a matter of life and death. The preserved food from the autumn harvest wouldn't keep much longer, so you stuffed yourself and then starved until the spring. That's why various religions have latched onto it.

The idea of it being Jesus's birthday was simply a way of Christianising the Roman midwinter festival (it was actually the birthday of the Sun God). Nobody knows when Jesus was born. The Jews of the day didn't celebrate birthdays.

I love Christmas! It is a time to spend some quality time with my family. It is also a time to help out people less fortunate than myself. I send a Christmas card to my sponsored child in India, I send Christmas presents to the local women's shelter so all children have a gift to open on Christmas day. It is a time when I can start drinking alcohol at 9am and not feel guilty. I bake cakes for my neighbours that will be by themselves over Christmas. I hide candy cane in the garden for the kids next door. I can eat until I think I will burst. I can lie in the pool all afternoon. I can spoil my family. Do you need anymore reasons??

If you do not like Christmas, you do not have to celebrate. Perhaps you could offer to serve food for the homeless on the day?

Christmas is Good because -
I get 2 weeks paid leave at Christmas and 1 week at Easter. That means that I can take 1 week of my 4 weeks optional holiday off in the summer and get paid twice for the other 3 weeks that I don't take. That means that I get paid for 55 weeks a year but only have to work for 48 and that doesn't even take into consideration bank holidays.
It Sounds OK to Me!

if we didnt have at least one thing in the year to look forward i think it would be a bit depressing. lets face it we cant look forward to the summer instead because that only lasts about four days (if we are lucky). christmas is for the kids also i think, and to get the family together, and because of the public holiday they can travel and stay, not have to ruch back home to work. oh and pleeeeeeeeese can we have snow this year?????????

It's just controlled by the shops to get more cash. The only plus side is that it creates extra employment for some people for a short period of time and some homeless people might get a night in a hostel for a change.

Just like halloween it has no real meaning anymore and exists to profit Tesco and the card companies.

A chance to meet up with family and friends. Without being in anyway pagan, an acknowledgement that the year has turned. Turkey and mince pies. Christmas pud, sloe gin. Silly jokes in crackers. Champagne for breakfast.
