The money factor if your going to invest in higher education. Men would most likely enter Medical, Law,Business fields or high paying employment in the trades. Very few men are going to go into school for a cause such as becoming a veterinarian or teaching. Men will mostly find employment for money first. Or it could be that just more women are animal lovers.

They are still there. From the way it was explained to me, money is a factor. DM's often make more money than DVM's, so many men are attracted to that. Also, it is believed that many aspects of veterinary medicine require people to be caring and sensitive, so many women are more likely to fill that need. However, I have known men who are in vet school and planning on working on the range from dogs and cats to horses to cattle and pigs. I also know some women who have no desire to see a dog or cat and really like horses, cattle, or pigs. Perhaps it is simply a combination of things.

It has been the general trend that women out number men in higher education. There have been a lot of articles written about this. As well as some studies done.

An exception -- law. Men still typically out number women.
