Our insurance company is paying for all repairs and mold cleanup (except for $500 deductible). Question: as part of our claim with the insurance company, should we also include medical costs and lost wages due to being allergies as a result of the mold? Anything else to include in the claim I may not be thinking of?

I forgot to say......the moisture issue was a result of poor HVAC installation of the dryer vent when the house was built. The house is 2 1/2 years old.

Even though the problem is on the floor - I would want the bottom part of the drywall checked. It's very possible the drywall got wet and could be moldy too.

No the contrasting colors will compliment each other and hardwood flooring is always a great selling feature! Some may prefer lighter flooring its just up to the individual but at the moment dark hardwoods are very trendy and modern! Go for it as hardwood regardless of the color is a great asset and actually helps your resale value rather than hurting :)

You're thinking about asking YOUR home owner's insurance to pick up the medical bill? If you have medical insurance, it should pay. Otherwise, I would not push the issue. If your medical bills are extensive, you might ask the agent. As for lost wages, you'll probably be looking for a new insurance company soon.

I don't think I would press my luck. The insurance company is not at fault, you needed to control the moisture in the first place with a dehumidifier or something.
