It is going to be important because it is bringing an end to a cruel leader. It is letting Saddam's followers be more angry. It is finishing what the United States troops started. In my opinion, he needs to be made suffer. Not neccesarily killed, but he is needed to be severly punished. About half of Iraqis are happy about the hanging of Saddam, and the other half are against. Hanging Saddam Hussain is an important event in history because it is getting rid of a terrible leader, and fixing some problems. It also may start some trouble with his follower's, but we will never know until it happens.
When you ask about why it is important, think about it this way: You are an Iraqi child in school (in the future). You are happy with your current leader and hear in a class discussion your elderly teacher murmur something about a terrible leader in the past. You don't believe her, because Iraq is such a great country to you and there has been nothing said about this leader. You are mad no one has told you about this before.
Many people would be very angry if this event was kept in mind. If this event wasn't important, they wouldn't put it in textbooks, or even speak about it. The above scenario should never happen. We need to keep disasterous events in books and other recourses. If they did not keep this event in mind, Iraq would not have future, if they can't prevent from this kind of thing happening again.

It will probably be the first time that a dictator like him was ever brought to justice:

Idi Amin
Hitler
Stalin
Baby & Papa Doc
Castro
Musolini

I mean the list goes on and on and on....none of these monsters were ever brought to justice.

Maybe this will set a precedence for other potential or current dictators that they cant just abuse their power and expect to go unpunished. I mean innocent women and children dying at their hands....US soldiers dying trying to keep peace in their regions....US children fatherless/motherless because they lost a loved one overseas....there are many stakeholders affected by this one event

I am hoping it will deter future abusers of power but you never know....it is so unstable over there that his death may be an impetus to start a civil war since there are so many opposing sectarian groups in that region

That is why this one event however trivial it may appear is crucial in world history...we'll just to wait and see what happens
