A 14 gallon tank is not really big enough to raise angels. They need deeper water and room to swim. You also need to put tall plants in so they have somewhere to hide.

I wouldn't put more than 3 or 4 at the most in that small of a tank. Good filtration will be a must. Use a filter with about 100 gph (gallons per hour) throughput. Put it on the back (not the side) of the tank so the inflow current is only at one end of the tank. Angels do not like currents in their tanks. They come from slow sluggish streams and tributaries of the Amazon.

One will become dominant and the others will need places to go where he can't see them. Plants, tall decorations are good.

They are south American cichlids and need temps around 78-80 degrees with a pH in the range of 6.5 to 7.2. In the wild, they live in very soft water (around 6.5) but the tank raised fish we get now are OK in the range I mentioned.

If your tap water is higher than 7.2 pH, put a ball of peat moss in the filter for a week or two at first when you get them so the pH will start low and then remove it when the fish have become accustomed to the slowly rising pH. Try to find out what the pH of the fish store tanks is and try to match it for the first couple weeks until they acclimate to your water.

Don't buy fish that have just arrived at the fish store unless their tanks are VERY healthy and you see no dead fish anywhere in them. It is a good idea to wait for a couple days at least before you buy them. Many times they are shocked at the fish store and do not survive when you bring them home.

They are carnivores, so feed a high protein diet. At least 40-50% protein flakes. Treat them with frozen brine shrimp, frozen red worms and common guppy fry two to three times a week.

Water changes are a must. Do at least 25-30% changes once a week to keep them healthy and happy.

Email me if you have more questions. Be sure to confirm your email address to the site so you can receive emails back. Good luck.

The most important thing you need to get right now is a heater and a good filter! Since angelfish are tropical saltwater fish, you need to keep the water warm. (around 82 degrees). Also you need a really good filter. Otherwise within a week you probably won't be able to see through the tank and your fish will be sick and dying! You also need to get a bag of sea salt from the pet/fish store. It will tell you how much to use. The rule that I always heard on how many fish to keep in a tank is, for every inch of fish, have 2 gallons of water. (if your fish is two inches long, you need 4 gallons of water) You will need other chemicals to reduce chlorine in your water, etc. The best way to get all of those are to go to your pet store and just ask the most knowledgeable looking person what you will need chemical wise.

That tank is slightly too small. on the same time as the top of the tank is sweet, the width is slightly too small. you should consistent with hazard wreck out with one angel, yet i definatly does no longer upload extra effective than that. Tall tanks are slightly extra sturdy to inventory when you consider that they do no longer furnish loads of swimming room. you should aim a school of corycats for the backside, and a few smaller tetras and a few otocinclus algae eaters. in case you get an angelfish nevertheless, are not getting neon tetras, as angels eat those as snacks ;)

They love the guppy fries... You can actually keep guppies in the tank with them.. Adult guppies are too big for them but the fries are not.

Yes, they need a 30+ gallon tank.
You can keep small inch big angels in a small 10gallon tank but when they're bigger they need more space.

and ditto on everything the other people said.
