Dmitry Mendeleyev (not sure of the spelling) invented the periodic table.

Mendeleev, indeed, arranged the first Period Table by atomic mass. Interestingly (dazzle your teacher with this) Four months later Julius Lothar Meyer independently developed the first periodic table, arranging the elements by mass.

Today they are arranged by Atomic Number.

Get an "A".

I *know*!!! It's like, they were just fine the way they were, and then somebody comes along and rearranges them this way! So rude!

because they were trying to make "GOLD", they did NOT know it was an "ELEMENT"
