2. Copacabana Beach: Take a Caiprinha (National cocktail) at the Copacabana Palace, the expensive but charming 1920's Hotel.
3. Pao de Acucar, go either early or sunset , for great photo shots
4, Corcovado (The famous Statue of Christ)
5.The train ride to Saint Teresa
6. I would go to the Museum of Contemporay Art in Nitterroi,
great architecture , and fanastic view of Rio. Take the ferry boat, it's across the bay
7. Drink Acai , in a juice bar.
8. Night night head to Lapa , where the best nightlife is.
9.If you are in Rio , December 31st, go to the beach to attend the ceromonies if the Goddest of the sea.People are all dressed in white and light candles on the beach and throw offerings in the sea.

There are so many things to do in the new years time. You probably won't miss the numerous festivities, so don't worry about that. People from the hotel once you get there will be more than glad to help you find them. A couple things I can think of, is to go to the corcovado (Jesus watching over the city statue), it's so beautiful, so high...They take you up there in a little train through a mountain. Make sue to take a camera! Also, the Pao de acucar, in english: sugarloaf mountains. That is the mountains that they connect to each other by what it looks like strings and a "box" where people hop on and go to the different mountain tops. AWESOME! Make sure you eat lots of farofa, pastel, coxinha, and empadinha, feijoada, etc. Good luck!

1. take a city tour
2. take a tour Corcovado and Sugar Loaf (Christ Statue)
3. eat at a churrascoeria, a barbecue restaurant. brazil is famous for it.
4. drink a caiprinha .. THE BEST alcoholic drink. You can get them anywhere.. on the beach.. Burger Stands.. restaurants..
5. See a capoeira show, a certain type of martial arts
6. Go to Copacabana or one of the beaches.
If you leave Brazil without experiencing these things... Then you havent seen Brazil

The above plus Jardim Botanico, it's a nice way to escape the city heat and the cafe sells lovely food.

Depends on your interests and budget, but some suggestions would be:
- samba school rehersal
- helicopter flight over city
- hike up Gávea Peak
- Nightlife in Lapa and/or Santa Teresa
