I still see 99% of performing bands still singing into microphone stands rather than a wireless headphone/mic. With the sound technology so good now, why don't they opt for the more versatile, wirleess set up?

As a good friend to a band I know that most bands travel with their own equipment and regardless of how technology has gotten better...it is also much more expensive...most bands stick with what's easy. Also if they are playing a small venue the place they are playing may not be able to support the use of the wireless.

It may be more comfortable and versatile, but nothing beats the sound-quality of a good traditional mic. It just captures the acoustics so much better than a headset and "carries" the sound better. Also, it just looks so much cooler. Can you honestly imagine Ozzy Osbourne, James Hetfield, Max Cavallera or even people like Dave Matthews or Alanis Morissette rocking out with a headset instead of throwing around a mic-stand? I didn't think so.

Wireless headset microphones offer a significantly lower sonic quality than larger microphones connected by a typical XLR cable. Wirless mics use UHF radio frequencies to send the signal to a receiver, and the signal quality degrades as the distance increases.

Also, I think most people tend to associate wireless headsets with acts like Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears. There's definitely a cool-factor involved with a traditional mic stand.

The stand is good for the show. It's so cool to have a stand with you and you can drag it and spin it. Decorating it (i.e. Steven Tyler) is also fun. It's just fun to have and good for if you want to stand in place and hold onto it. Also, they would hear you breathe when ur on a headset

you can't beat good old hard wired XML connectors for reliability . No RF interference

i personally dont like the way they feel on your ear/head and when your rocking out they dont stick very well unless you "help" them adding to the discomfort.

a lot of it has to do with their "comfort zone"
change is not easy...especially if you've been doing it one way for years
