Like black or jews for example, do you think our community is strong enough?

I don't think there is enough solidarity in the LGBT crowd at the moment. And it's badly needed in today's climate. There are also not enough friends and family of LGBT speaking up, which is sad.

The difference is that sexuality discrimination is not evident like being black or Jewish is. Your sexuality only becomes known because you choose to announce it in some way, whereas my race is evident and people make judgements on that from across the street, from yards away, without ever talking to me.

As a result, racial solidarity has more basis than sexual solidarity. Blacks and Jews actually roots in a community, whereas homosexuals et al are spread amongst many communities and nationalities.

OMG do we ever need more solidarity! I have encountered roughly as many LBGTQ people who are against certain factions of our society (ex, transgendered people) as straight people who are! I kid you not! I was on the BOD for and LBGT organization at university for a few years and eventually I just had to get out of there! I couldn't understand how, for example, a gay man could say to me that I had it better in life because I was a lesbian and at least straight guys thought that I was hot and wouldn't beat me up over it! I calmly explained that I don't want straight guys to think I am hot and creep on me, hence the term lesbian. Also, transgendered people always seem to get the crappy end of the deal, fear and misunderstanding from LBGT and straight alike. Of course, I am aware that I am speaking in sweeping generalizations. There are, I hope and believe, more accepting LBGTQ people - of one another - than not. Anyway, back to the question, yes we need more solidarity. I think everyone should wear a big rainbow on a certain day so we know who we all are - just kidding - might work though.....

Unfortunately our communit*ies* are waaay too divided. On top of that FAR TOO FEW of the LGBT communities actually care about having equal rights or presenting a positive image for our communities.

I think we, the GLBT community, are strong but sometimes society as a whole is stronger. We'll always face criticism regardless of how many laws are passed in our favor. There will always be the bigots, the haters, the right wing Christians that will condem us all to hell. We'll always face hardships! It's part of life, though.
