Given that Brown is absolutely addicted to high taxes and the latest loony on the block - Miliband seems to be of the same ilk.

Its a flaming brillliant excuse!! Brown can get extra money into his coffers and tell the public that he is doing it for their own good in order to save the environment!! but more importantly one has to ask why the UK has the highest taxes on fuel in EU and second highest in the world whilst China USA russia have relatively low taxes on fuel... therefore would brown hiking up taxes on fuel in the UK really help the environment or just put our businesses and economy on an uneven and unfair playing field with the global market!! COnsider the cost of travel, production of goods i.e manfacturing and logistics compared to USA because of our high fuel prices.... High fuel taxes cause us to lose our competivitness.. and gives other coutries a competitive advantage

since the start of the industrial revolution the amount of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere has increased by over 35%... the best estimates are that a little better than 60% of that increase is due to humans.... in other words yes it's real and although some of it is part of the natural cycle a large part of it is our fault. raising taxes isn't the answer though.. the answer is to become more energy conscious and to start using renewable energy resources.. we now have the technology to produce gasoline, not only diesel, from bio-matter... that's a start.. and fuel cell technology isn't that far away.. we just need to get the lobbyists out of office so we can get away from oil!

Yes. If they didn't think they could fix "global warming" through taxation, they'd shed the theory like a prom dress.

It's an excuse for more govt control of everybody's life. Taxes are part of that.

Unfortunately, this is not a theory: have a look at the poles, the fires, the temperatures...

Unfortunately also the taxes will be used to help fixing the mess!

Without doubt - that's all this govt want to do is tax us. If it were that serious a problem they would ration fuel or reduce packaging - anything to reduce pollution but they don't. x

Oh it goes way beyond taxes my friend. It's all about the belief that America and capitalism are evil. The Global Warming crew want America punished for our success. They want our economy to be harmed while instituting major changes energy, transportation and industrial sectors. They want us to pay for developing countries to leap frog over polluting technologies to more environmental technologies.
