I believe it came out in the 80's sometime. It was about a poor boy who came across a golden apple, and ate it. I forget a lot of the details, but I remember a giant head with a long beard came and the boy rode the beard into this wierd other world where I believe he found his father. Very strange i know, everytime I ask someone this they look at me like I have four heads...anyone out there know??

The only movie i remember with a giant head with a long beard was The Neverending Story, i don't remember anything about golden apples in it though. Try looking at the link i posted, see if it's what you meant.
