I agree with us having a moral responsibility to help clean up the mess we made. However it could be that the best thing we can do is to leave, especially if our presence is fueling and perpetuating the violence.

There is NO win in Iraq. There are only degrees of losing. We have stirred up a hornets nest there and made too many strategic blunders. Iraq will be unstable and violent for decades to come.
the minute we leave, the army and police forces will essentially vanish. Many soldieers have reported hearing this from the Iraqis themselves. Why? Militias being built by the Al Sadr's of the world will quickly take over. It will degenerate into all out reprisals and civil war. The Kurds will probalby be ok as those areas are relatively calm compared to other areas.

God, the sunk cost theory of war. We have killed so many people and lost so many of our own and destroyed so much of the country that we have to keep the killing and destruction going or the iraqis will kill one another and destroy stuff.
Yesterday we had 5 GIs and 89 Iraqis killed and almost 150 iraqis wounded. Just how much worse do you think it would be if we left. I know the killing of at least one group would end if we left; US servicemen.
One more thing if you believe "we'to finish the job in Iraq and you're under 42 years of age www.goarmy.com

You are not wrong they we have to stay, we have a moral responsibility to help these people through this if their government wants us to be their, which they do, Democrats dont understand that leaving now would cause so much more damage than staying. Why? I dont know. But good luck, hope i helped you, or at least made a valid point.

The Iraqi people do not know what they want, or what is in their own best interest. They resent us for being their so we might as well leave and let them take care of each other. Why is it Muslims are always killing each other? Are they just that uneducated or are they so entrenched in Islam that they cannot see past Jihad.

Glad to see a liberal with his head on straight. Whether or not any American agrees with going into Iraq, we are there now, and we cannot leave them to fix their lives on their own. Its not a debate on going into Iraq any more, its what we should do while we're there, and how/when we should leave

As a conservative who was against the war at the start, I agree with you. Also for security reasons for the US.
Rebuilding is also necessary.

bush opened a pandora's box. there is no way we can "win" in iraq. it is none of our business, but when we do pull out, the country will collapse into the same dictatorship it was before we illegally invaded the country.
