There is a six foot high wood fence around my back yard but my dog got blasted

Yes they can. They can dig under it too. If there is a gap (crack) and the skunk was walking by it. It could spray through that. They can spray about six feet.

Yes I have proof of that. my yard is fenced with a 6 foot in back and one side and a 4 foot on the other side there are large scratch marks in the corners of the 4 foot side and conical holes dug on the inside of the yard. And by the way my Lab had an encounter two weeks ago and we are still trying to de skunk her I saw it happen she went right after the skunk and took a full face full for her trouble. Yes skunks will climb and I have also put down Skunk away fro lowes and that doesn't stop the critter either. If I see it in the middle of the night again I won't let the dog out I will just shoot the skunk in the head and be done with it.

Skunks can climb but do not normally to get to a dog. If your dog were too close to the fence or the skunk were to have even the smallest area under the fence to spray your dog would have been nailed. The way it sounds is the skunk hadn't sprayed in sometime so it had plenty of ammo.
