Please, please, please, please read the article. It is from the Wall Street Journal. (not some obscure source) This is the main reason why poverty exist in the world. Poverty has absolutely nothing to do with rich countries not helping poor people. It has EVERYTHING to do with corrupt governments and tyrants. This romantic notion of giving poor countries money to solve the problem is a pie in the sky fantasy. And it is a big reason why poverty will never get fixed. It is the completely wrong approach.

There are several factors. There are many people in the US that lack motivation, self confidence or combination of the two. Some are people that suffer from depression. Some have been told they cannot succeed by members of their own races.

In the world those factors may also exist but add to that tyranical governments that oppress thier citizens. Throughout history there have always been regimes that seek to control thier populations through ignorance and tyranny.

Poverty in the US cannot be compared to poverty worldwide as our poor would be seen as the rich in many 3rd world countries.

Because those who are living in poverty will have nothing to pass down to the next generation.
Because those who are living in poverty have given up hope.
Because those who are living in poverty are in need of help when the rest of us are just greedy.

the poor will always be with you...poor people also tend to procreate more...they don't take the initiative (some!) to educate themselves...
