The rights to Casino Royale were bought by the people who made the first moviewith Peter Sellars, David Niven etc. So Cubby Broccoli (the series producer) could not make it. Those rights have now expired and have been bought by the people who make the series.

i think it was becuase the the first film they made (DR NO) was easiest to put into film. But Casino Royale was originally done by Peter Sellers it was horrendously bad. not a comedy type film at all so they gave it time to fade away before filming this one looks outstanding

The movie was already made, I think it was after Diamonds are Forever---James Bond was played by that one guy who only acted in that one movie. The movie coming out now is a remake.
