I need help and fast.
The problem is: Write an equation for "the sum of 8 times a number and 7 is twice the number."
Here is an example:"6 times the sum of a number and 12 is 40."
6(N + 12) = 40

That's the format the answer is supposed to go in except for the eqaual sign.
Once again the question is to: write an equation for "the sum of 8 times a number and 7 is twice the number."

when you write an equation, all you have to do is, put "n" in for the number or "a number" which you don't know. So the sum of 8 times(multiplied by) "a number(N)" and(plus) 7 is(equals) twice(two times) "the number"(N)

8xN+7=2xN

"eight times a number": let the number be x, then this is 8*x

"the sum of" add the two parts together 8*x + 7

"is" means equals =, so 8*x + 7 =

what does it equal? "twice the number", 2*x. So then

8*x + 7 = 2*x

That is the equation form of the expression.

You can manipulate the equation into different forms. Subtract 2*x from both sides and get

6*x + 7 = 0

Subtract 7 from both sides to get

6*x = -7

Divide both sides by 6 to get

x = -7/6

The problem is: Write an equation for "the sum of 8 times a number and 7 is twice the number."
Sum--you will add
8 times a number----8x
& 7---It's what you will add
is twice the number---=2x

8x+7=2x

solution: 6x=-7
x=-7/6
