1 of the wheels on my sofa was damaged causing a plastic friction mark when i moved it, almost as though little pieces of plastic came off and got matted to the carpet. Have tried a stiff brush, carpet cleaner and hot iron on damp teatowl and still nothing :(

You can't "clean" it. Carpets are synthetic. Synthetic fibers melt when heated. So your description is very accurate you burned (melted) the carpet. The only way to get rid of the discoloration is to take a single sided razor or box cutter and pliers or something to stretch the fibers, then very carefully cut the least amount of carpet fiber away that is melted.

Melted plastic is melted plastic, and nothing is going to get that out of your carpet. The only things I can suggest would be to carefully cut off any large pieces of melted plastic and live with what's left, or relplace either that spot or the entire room's carpet.

Cut out a piece of carpet from somewhere inconspicuous like behind a cabinet (one that no-one will ever notice) and replace the damaged part.
