It's something I heard in biology class and it seems really embarrassing.. I just wanted to know. I am going to give birth in about 3 weeks so I would love to find out.

Yes, it is true. You are pushing and when you do that, everything pushes out. My sweet doctor sat at my feet in a chair throughout my whole labor process and I felt what I was doing and he told me it was normal. You won't be embarrassed at the time it happens if they counsel you properly.

Best wishes on your delivery and your personal health as well as that of your infant.

Often sometimes a women does have a bowel movement during labor. Your baby when it's moving through the birth canal it's pressing on your intestines, sometimes with enough pressure whatever you have in there is going to come out. Normally if you have a long labor they'll put on a non solid food diet which if you on that like the day before your more likely to not have a bowel movement and you won't throw up. It's really not that embarassing, nobody is going to laugh at you or anything like that. It's a natural thing that can happen. Besides you'll be to busy with labor pains and everything else to worry about it.

My friend is an ob and it's so weird because I asked her this question 2 weeks ago. Yes, some women do but she said that it's the least of a worry while a woman is pushing a child out. They see it every day and it matters not to them. They just get it out of the way and try and help you deliver safely. Don't worry about it. I didn't. Some women do though. She said if you do, you're pushing in the right area. Nobody will make you embarrassed about it. They wont even tell you if you do.

Lots of women do. You are pushing really hard and if there is something there that wants to come out, it will come out LOL

It's not that embarrassing considering everything else that is showing.

By the way, if you are told not to eat once you go into labor..it's not for the reason of having to go to the bathroom at all. It's because your stomach goes into "rest mode" during labor and if you eat, you will probably throw up so the body can work at giving birth as opposed to digesting.

yes some women do go number 2. My sister did it! she was so worried that she would because she thought how embarrassed she would be. but when your pushing out the baby you dont really care! another person i know was pushing out the baby and she had dierria and it squirted all over the doctor! Sick now that would be embarrassing! they have pills you can take the day before you give birth. It makes you poop all day long so that the next day when you have the baby you wont poop! but who really knows when they are going to give birth the next day! The doctors deliver lots of babies and lots of poops it's not gross to them! there used to it!

Very true, and yes, quite embarassing. I didn't with my first son, But did with my second, The nurses are SUPER great about it though, They told me that I had to get all the other stuff out to make room for baby to come out, Cleaned it up, And I continued giving birth! :-)

*I* knew right when I did it..and felt kind of silly, But was so ready for my son to be born, That 'embarassment' quickly went away!

Nothing to worry about...I'm sure they've seen A LOT worse!!! Lol.

Congrats on the soon to be new little bundle of joy!!!

Yes it happens, and there is nothing you can do about it. At that point you really dont care! This is probably why they tell you not to eat after you start labor. (I had been in labor 14 hours -without anything but a dry pc of toast to eat- and the dr told me it would be another day even, so I ran to Burger King and ended up in the hospital in active labor 15 min later!)
So, if you want to avoid that, try not to eat once your labor starts!
Good Luck and Congratulations!!

Yes, it is really a true and gross part of the birthing expreience. Some women are lucky and it never happened to them but for the majority it will. It is only natural with all that baring down.

Some women do. Very normal and the staff will just clean it away. Means you are pushing well.

Personally, my body emptied itself out in early labor. I never had a BM during pushing because of that. I think waiting for labor to come on it's own instead of being induced helps some too.

Since you are using the same muscles for pushing out the baby as having a BM it is possible. The delivery drs and nurses see this quite often and they just immediately wipe it away with gauze. I was nervous about this also but at the time I didn't care if I passed my whole intestine as long as the baby was out and labor ceased!!!
