I ordered an HP laptop with a 100GB harddrive. I called asked them if I could change it to the 160GB size instead (Dual 80GB drives) but they said it already shipped and I could just send it back if its "not up to my standards". The cost difference for this upgrade is $100. Would I be better off just adding a harddrive later on (if possible) if I need more space, or is this dual harddrive thing difficult to mess with and should just send it back?

I'm not as familiar with laptops, although I'm trying to figure out how you can actually put in two drives into a laptop without running out of just physical space. Probably they took a 160 and just partitioned it into 2 drives

i would just hold off, unless you're really big on downloading really large picture files. otherwise, even 100GB is going to hold over for a long time.

Nowadays hard drives are a dime a dozen. You could probably get a large external drive for less than $100.

Depending on what you are going to use the laptop for, I'd keep what you got, 100GB is a good amount of space. Now if you are going to create a massive library of music/pictures/video, you may need to rethink that idea.

Just add another hardrive later. I only had a 60 and my lap was never full and I had huge programs on mine. Itwould be cheaper to have a alocal service guy do it rather than shipping it back to them and waiting forever for an upgrade.

It's not worth sending it back and forth just for that little bit of expansion. A smart idea is to buy an external hard drive as for back-up purposes.
