if i were to have unprotected sex right after my menstrual cycle, its highly unlikely that i could become pregnant, right?
you dont ovulate until 14 days after the first day of your menstrual cycle. so therfore that would be the safest time to not become pregnant, right?

You count to day 14 after the first day of your period. Even if you have sex 5 days before you ovulate, you can still become pregnant. Sperm lives in women for 5-7 days.

Ideally... but that is no way close to a guarantee. My husband and I were trying for months to have a second baby with no luck. I ended up going out of town for the week that I had my period. The day my period ended was the day we saw each other again and got busy. :) We had our second last Monday.
Most women ovulate two weeks after their period but not always. The more irregular you are the greater your chance for ovulating early or late. (My period was exact when I got pregnant this time.) Plus sperm can survive for a couple of days once inside the body.
There is no guarantee but considering everything it is the safest time, but it is not fool proof. You can still get pregnant like I did. If you don't want a baby don't take the risk.

From the day you start you have 14 days in between there that you are at high risk of becoming pregnant.

you never know, don't do it! Unless you are ok with getting pregnant.
