Carly Simon's song, you're so vain, is meant to be written about Warren Beatty. She admonishes him for being so vain he thinks the song is about him. However, as it actually is about him, is he being vain for thinking that it is about him ?

he would not be vain for the sole act of thinking the song is about him as he knows it is about him but this does not preclude him from being vain. so strictly just to answer to your question, no he isn't

I'll give it some thought ....
I think the song really is about him and Carly Simon had a secret crush on him. She didn't want him to know so she wrote him a song in which she said that she bet he would think the song was about him. Thus making him think that the song wasn't really about him and was in actual fact about someone else, therefore he wouldn't become aware of her secret crush.
What do you think?

I was thinking about this exact same thing actually and I think it has to do with her feelings towards him rather than just flat out about him.
