What is a good percentage to shoot for when evaluating the number of prospects you convert to customers? For example, I have a friend whose in sales and he says that he converts 1% of the prospects into customers. Personally, that seems a little low.

It will vary from industry to industry, but I'd say between 5 - 15% of the people you talk to (more than a couple of minutes) should translate into sales

You need to be at least 10%.
30% is possible, but it depends on how you define a prospect.
Is a prospect just a lead or a name on a list, or is it someone who showed interest or made an inquiry.
Prequalification is the key.
