If it were legal, the rules for it would slowly but surely relax. There are deep questions that tend to unravel the case for it, like who decides competency to make the decision? If the person in question cannot speak who then makes the decision?

You might be able to see how the situations that arise can slowly ratchet the decision further and further from the individual. Then at some point, the costs of keeping you alive will override anything you have to say about it because your 'quality of life' will not be sufficient to justify the expenditure.

If it was legal, it could be abused and we would end up with only young people who do not have the experience it takes to make some of the decisions life requires or to teach the next generation or to take care of the next generation. If it was legal, people would kill our grandparents, instead of just finding ways to help them with medical problems.

Because it can be abused, for example by people wanting to euthanise their parents for financial gain.

In countries where it is legal there are many legal procedures to ensure that it is definitely the wish of the person concerned.

If someone is terminally ill and in an incredible amount of pain, and they themselves wish to end their suffering, then euthanasia is a humane and compassionate thing to do.
