Hey, I know this may sound tacky...but....
You should have a look at Goodwill. Our local store has some of the nicest dresses...brand new. Many of them (both wedding and prom style dresses) are pristine new, and some have tags still on them.
No one will know where you got it...you can tell them you got it online or something. This way, you can look at it and feel it, and try it on.
Congrats on the wedding! And good for you for not spending a ton of money on a dress you will wear one time.

I went to David's Bridal and found a $1000 clearance gown (from previous season) for $200. In fact they had dresses that were two seasons old for $99 but none in my size. I was still very pleased with the bargain and the dress. Congrats and Good Luck!

Goodwill, Salvation Army store, and believe it or not, check your paper. I found a $2,000 wedding dress that was being sold by a woman who's wedding plans turned sour. She wanted to sell this brand new dress, for merely $300.00 just to get it out of the house! :)

I HAVE SOME FABULOUS SUGGESTIONS:
These are all reputable sites and have beautiful, reasonable gowns!
www.davidsbridal.com
www.carabella.com (click on 'bridal')
www.bridalonlinestore.com
www.bestbridalprices.com
www.houseofbrides.com
www.weddingsforless.com
Also, you might try your local bridal shops and ask about any discontinued dresses they might have. Many times, these gowns are hundreds of dollars off!
I might also suggest going to www.theknot.com. They have a gown finder and you can search with your own price criteria (All the way from $--not too much money, to $$$$--a lot of money).
If you have a dress in mind that you really like (and you know the designer, number, etc.), you could try searching for it on E-Bay from a trusted seller.
Don't rule out looking at consignment stores. Also, don't be scared to try stores such as thrift stores and Goodwill. I used to know a girl who worked at a bridal shop and when they couldn't sell dresses or they were discontinued for so long, they'd take them to Goodwill. For the amount of money you saved, you could take the dress and have it hemmed, altered and even personalized by a seamstress.
You could also try having a seamstress make your dress from a pattern. Try www.voguepatterns.com or also try McCalls or SImplicity Patterns. (You can view these at their websites or at Wal-Mart or local craft stores)
GOOD LUCK>

go to www. craigslist.com...where u can find extravagant ones for cheap, sold by private sellers in your area. or go to www.groupusa.com and order a cool looking gown from there in whatever color fits you for your wedding. most of the gowns are like $175...but u can find nicer, more expensive ones too. view their catalog online.

I would say to try David's Bridal. Or go to theknot.com and do a wedding gown search. You can narrow by many variables, including neckline, length, and price.
