It may be a swim bladder infection. Try feeding him peas as they clean out his system. Some fish can survive even though they look a little funky upside down like that. It's a totally treatable sickness though :)

I used to work with fish and he is not sick!! He has a bladder problem!! LOL I know, I burst out laughing when I found out!!! He should be fine. We had a fish that did the same thing!! He lived for a long time and then someone bought him because they thought it was cute how he swam upside down. When kids would come in and look at the fish, I would point him out to them and they thought it was just too cute!!

That used to happen in my science class, both fish did that right after eating. The professor said it was because they took in a swallow of air along with the food and will swim normally soon as they burp. This happened every morning.
But that was in our case. You might want to check and make sure he really is ok.

I agree with Rachel. It sounds like a swim bladder infection and you should try feeding it peas. My Grandma's fish had this problem -- only he swam on his side. He continued to eat and was like that for 3 months or more before he died.
Here's an article about it: http://www.kokosgoldfish.com/Swim%20Bladder%20Disorder.html

Sounds like he has swim bladder disease. Try feeding him peas. This may help, but don't be too surprised if he doesn't make it. :-(
