I havent patended this yet so no one better steal it. OK, you know the evacuation seats on jets, what if they put those in helicopters just in case theyre falling or some thing? Wouldnt that be a great invention? What do you think?

Well, while you're at it, why don't you invent an ejection seat for a corckscrew roller coaster or something. At least some of the people on a roller coaster would be stupid enough to use it!!

I would say go for it, but only if you are the first volunteer for the testing of said apparatus. ; )

It's a bad idea.

First, there has to a sunroof for it to work. Jet pilot uses the Sunroof to get into the air plane anyways, so it's ok to have evacuation seat. But pilot enters the helicopter from the side entrance, where is it going to reject the seat to?

Second, if the helicopter is falling, you will want to reject the seat upward. However, upward is where the helicopter's blades are. Hmmm... then u should have an idea what would happen to the pilot. =D

Wow... Great answers. Some helocoptors do have ejection seats. Mainly military aircraft. Most helocopters fall strait down just like when they take off or land and you can eject upside down from a jet also and be fine. When an ejection seat of a helocopter is triggered the rotors release and the pilot is ejected. Search on Youtube or Wikipedia, you guys may find a video or something fun.

The reason they don't put emergency ejection seats on helicopters is because if one were to manually eject they'd be chopped up into little pieces due to the spinning helicopter blades above the pilots.

a) It's not a new invention...it's just putting someone else's invention in another kind of aircraft.
b) If they needed ejection seats in helicopters, they already would have put them there.

Conclusion: Not a great invention.

The injection seats I'm familiar with propel the pilot up, that would be in the direction of the rotating blades! I suppose you could eject side ways?

NO!, that would SUCK

how would you get rid of the rotating blades?

and if you did

wouldn't that weaken the design of the helicopter, thus preventing you from flying into combat, cause one hit would detach the blades.

OK so if they were able to have the blade detach before the seat ejected maybe......I'm sure its already been thought about by aeronautical engineers

1) Copters fly too low for the chute to deplot.
2) The seat woud hit the rotor, killing the crewman.

Sorry, won't work.
