Dear MacLos:
I want you to consider the following.
First of all, you do have skills, they just are not work related. But that doesn't mean that you cannot get a job.
What I would like for you to do is to consider this:
Is there a local state-run employment agency? Here in Michigan, we have Michigan Works! Offices which help people find work. They also offer job search and job seeking skills. They can help you put a resume together, practice for an interview, show you how to launch a job search based on your skills.
Secondly, Take a few minutes and go to www.monster.com and look at the career advice tab. They have some great tests, all free which can help you look at your strengths and help you find the type of work. Since they get a sea of applicants, to set yourself apart, when they ask questions of you, think in terms of how you can prove that you are very capable. Don't be arrogant, but explain why you are able to do what is necessary. If they ask you something you don't think you can do. Don't say I can't, but look at it and figure out what you would have to do to accomplish that task. If you do, I'm going to guess that they will take a closer look at you.
Thirdly, don't bypass the temp agencies. But when you apply ask them if they are fee-paid by the employer of if you have to pay a fee for the jobs. Most, like Manpower and other temp agencies pass the fee onto the employer.
When you go to any of these places, be very careful about your appearance. Dress like you would to go to a Sunday night church service. Which means dress slacks and a nice top. No blue jeans, torn clothes. Remove any facial piercings or cover tattoos if you have any.
Be polite, and remember when you go in that you will be oberved, so don't take friends in with you or kids. Be there and treat that time like it's important.
Finally, before you go there, take a long hard look at what you have accomplished. Don't say "I've never done anything" because you have! Think about in your family life, in your school, etc what have you accomplished? Are you punctual, organized, do you finish what you start, do you stay focused, etc.
If you can show them that you are willing to work, stay focused and are determined to be successful, it's just a case of finding the right job.
And on a final note. Don't be afraid to return to school if you are not in school already. I'm almost 44 and I'm almost finished with my bachelor's degree. It's not too late to return to school.
You can do it! Good luck to you!!

As The Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe says, "Don't Panic!"
Think instead.
We all start somewhere because none of us are born with tremendous amounts of work experience. Luckily, many jobs don't require actual work experience - what they require is honesty, a good attitude towards work and other people, willingness and ability to learn, basic math and language skills and... well, that's about it!
Most retail positions require little or no work experience. Fast-food, mall stores, department stores, hey - if nothing else, nearly all retailers are making temporary hires for the Christmas season right now.
Think about whether you REALLY have no experience in anything. No babysitting? Temping? Can you use a computer? Have you been a lifeguard? Can you swim?
Don't get discouraged when you're job hunting. Most of the times you don't get hired it isn't because they didn't want you - its because there were 100 people applying for 2 jobs and they had to make a decision. Job hunting is largely a numbers game, especially when you're looking for entry level positions. It can be discouraging and its easy to assume that nobody "wants you" and that just isn't the case any more than its the case that the lottery doesn't want you.

start small. try a restaurant asking for a dish washer, or a place like walmart that hires almost anybody who does not have a criminal record. these jobs aren't that good, but any experience is better than none and if you stay with the crappy job for a few months before looking for a good job, it will show that you are willing to do what is necessary to succeed. Also, make a resume, with all the skills you have acquired throughout life. If you've ever babysat, even brothers and sisters, this is child care, and you must have some hobby you are good at. put those down as skills. focus on what you CAN do, rather than what you haven't yet learned.

ok you could probably start by looking for a job at stores such as the mall and walmart. You could apply to hospitals and doctors offices as a clerk....you could apply just about anywhere that interests you, just be sure to tell them that you don't have any experience...and they should be able to give you some sort of a job

McDonald, Burger king, Wal_mart, any retail chain, or try the unemployment office. A temp agency will help you but they cost money
