Bloody Mary was actually a real person. She was Queen Mary I of England. She persecuted the Protestants and executed hundreds of people, hence the name.

The legend of Bloody Marie is from the late 1800s when King Something killed all his wives because they were only giving him daughters and he wanted a son.
