What about this.... what if you cut photos from catalogs or magazines that show a bunch of things a teenage girl like her would be interested in. Then give her the money (if you can afford it), along with the photos, and then she can choose if she wants one little tiny wallet that will be out of style and 'so five minutes ago' in about a week. It would be a gift, and a lesson in economics at the same time. You could also include photos (or coupons) from the sunday paper to help you illustrate what $150 will buy.
A lot of fashion magazines will have comparison articles about how to get the gucci look on a K-mart budget. I know it sounds a bit hokey, but I have done this and it works. So if you wanted to get her a purse, this may help you find something.
Perhaps you could find a very close imitation of the expensive purse she wants, and give her the balance of the money with the photos of all she could get?
Just wondering here....but has she hit up her biological mother for such an expensive item? What does her father think?
Good luck.

I also have a 13 year old daughter. She hasn't asked for an expensive purse but she does want the new ps3. $500. There is no way I can afford that. I told her that she can tell everyone she wants $$ this X-mas. That way she can just go buy whatever she wants.
Another suggestion would be to go to www.giftcards.com . There you can purchase a gift card with a visa logo on it and give that as a gift. It works like a visa and they can use it anywhere.

Well $150 for a purse is ridiculous. Get her a nice, cute, affordable purse and fill it with goodies such as little lip glosses, body spray, lotions, earrings (if her ears are pierced), etc. Fill it with tons of cute little goodies and I'm sure she'll think that's just as nice as a $150 purse that she will probably hate in a few months when it's "out of style".

most kids that age would love to have their own cell phone or iPod or something like that. I myself would not pay that much for a designer purse that small and for a 13 yr old that probably only wants it for the status of said item.

Target has hundreds of items to delight that age girl.
Ikea also
Claire's and Icing sell jewelry and accessories for teens.
Also, it's Christmas, maybe you could go all out for her just this once. Be sure she understands this is from you and hubby and it will be the only thing she gets this year. Think about it, you will be a hero in the girl's eyes!
Just a thought.
Cheers.

Try going to a thrift store and finding a retro purse! Then fill it with anything you already know she likes, such as make-up, books, dolls, toys...
ps.- I am not joking! I'm 17, and I have about 4,000 books, and I collect little dolls and toys,...but make-up is ok too!
LOL!

My stepmom gives me a spa day or something like that because she does nails. One time she got me this cute housecoat with slippers and took me on a shopping spree with my Christmas money and she gave me $50.00.
