I used to be a fan until they have changed the sport. Use to be an all American sport, not anymore. I am not sure what you would like to know because there is a lot to the sport. I would suggest watching it on tv because the do a really good job explaining everthing from the cars to the points and more.

NASCAR is really simple 43 guys driving fast turn left and trying to be the fast on the track and first on that last lap. I have watched NASCAR since I was a little girl My dad like Dale Earnhardt Sr. so I grew up in an Earnhardt home the JR started racing and I had my own Earnhardt to love. Its not a sport that you have to sit and wonder why did they stop?? You always know...there is a caution (yellow flag) so they have slowed down, there is something dangerous on the track or the weather is to bad to race so they are stoped (black flag), stuff like that. Watch the Daytona 500 and all the stuff leading up to it and you might be able to follow a little better ( Its in Feb). Oh and just so you know each race isn't 500 laps just because its a 500...every track has it's own distance around the track and if it says 300, 400, or 500 it means miles not laps..yesterdays race was just shy of 390 laps

Nascar is about the love of fast cars and loud engines. Being there in person is such a rush. You can feel the power as they come around the stretch of track. They're traveling at 180 to 190 mph around the track. You should come to one down here at the Texas Motor speedway sometimes. They just had the races this last weekend. The Dickies 500 mile race. You have to go once in your life. It's scary at first, but so adventureous. Ohhh if you can get a pit pass do so. You can actually meet the drivers. Bobby Labonte, Jeff Gordan and lot's more. It's such a big event in Texas now, along with the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, The Texas Rangers. Lot's of fun.

NASCAR rocks. Just watch a race, pick a car/driver, and you will be instantly hooked. Thats what happened to me. I'm like, whats all the hype about cars driving in a circle. Let me tell you.....its SOOOOOO much more than that.

I have learned so much, and only been watching for two seasons. My favorite quote:
"NASCAR is not a sport, its a way of life."

Go to Nascar.com. They have a ton of information explaining the rules, points stystem, stuff like that. Nascar is my favorite pasttime, but can be a little confuzing if you don't kn ow what is going on.

Oh, and in response to the dude above me, the cars are not identical. Many things on each and every car are different... hence why one driver could be perfect in the corners and another could be too tight/ too loose. The whole thing isn't just going around in a circle... Its a group of people (The driver and pit crew) trying their best to gain position on the track as about 37 other drivers are doing the exact same thing. It is like a game of chance... say you are about 6 laps short on gas and need to pit, do you go ahead and take two tires? or four? or any? do you make a chassis adjustment? what is every other driver on the track going to do?! If you do not enjoy or fully understand the sport, why are you answering someones valid questions about it?!

NASCAR is a lot of fun, just pick a driver and your set. Its basically a race, between 30+ cars, where teams are all set up to construct the best car for the track which they are racing at. then the team has to be in shape and knowledgeable to pit (refill gas tank, change tires, make adjustments....) faster than the other cars, its a lot of fun once you find some driver you like, and watch him and his team..... also their are a ton of race fans, and they are the most loyal fans of any sport, they follow them all over the country race to race.........

Golly, if you can't understand the thrill of watching 200mph billboards for whiskey and underwear go by in perfect sync with the average NASCAR fan's attention span, then that simply makes you normal.

43 cars that are identical in every way except for sponsorship with "drivers" in them go around in left-hand circles until the ones that don't crash cross the finish line. It's the perfect time-killer for those people that used to blow up their Matchbox cars as kids, as it accomplishes about the same thing.

Fascinating, isn't it?

Basically it's cute guys in fast, colorful cars driving around in circles, trying to reach the finish line first with out wrecking! I LOVE NASCAR! Dale Earnhardt Jr. (my fave)

It's like chess, only at 150+ miles an hour. Seriously. Strategy in the passing plans, in the pit strategy, in the car setups, what will you "give" in order to "get" on the track, how the track changes throughout the race and can the driver and crew keep up with it...
