Why are hamsters considered 'exotic animals'?

Any exotic animal is defined as one that is not indigenous to an area--in other words, hamsters don't live in the wild here in the United States (considering this is where you live);so, they are considered exotic.

LR: they are very special type of animals were hamsters
mate and raise young pups regularly also these cute &cuddly
pets eat food, drink water as staple diet

I suppose it's because they are not European ( forgot I was on US yahoo), They are Syrian and Russian...but I have to say I've never heard them called exotic before.....Maybe it's because they like wearing nipple tassles and dancing on bars???

Because you don't see them running around loose in America..unless of course someone has grown tired of the way the breed and have set them free

because they arnt normal to see running around like mice and other animals. that they are just soo darn cute!

they are not orriginaly held in captivity they are originaly from the desert.
