Cosmetic surgery is a specialization. You need to get an MD first. Then you can get your baord certification in cosmetic surgery. It is about a 2 year internship after your residency. Reconstructive surgery is much better and you can also do most cosmetic surgeries.

exactly what im pursuing...actually im pursuing heart surgery but it entails the same thing...1) Undergraduate degree - 4 years...doesnt matter what you major in as long as you fulfill the requirements for medschool 2) take MCAT and apply to med school. 3) Med school - approx 4/5 years 4) take board exam. keep in mind that your score determines what kind of doctor you can be...if you do really well you get to choose; otherwise, depending on your school, the board chooses for you...starting off at something like a general family doctor 5) approx. 2/3 years residency and specialization...plastic surgery/cosmetic.... yes it takes a while, but dont let that discourage you!!!

Pretty sure what you are talking about is becoming a "plastic surgeon". Just like regulars surgeons, plastic surgeons have to go to medical school. Not totally sure on this, but I think it takes about 12 years to get through college, med school and residency.

That's a medical degree. At least 4 years of undergraduate premed, then medical school - probably 10 years at least.
