i have a hp zv5000 that i got from an aunt and i don't know if she had the same problem or not but i've had it since june and it has never worked right. when its on the battery won't charge but as soon as i turn it off it charges. and the battery only last about an hour, is that normal or is there something wrong i really would like to know what is wrong with this laptop. if u need to know anything else just ask me and i will try to tell u what u want to know

Sounds like the battery is not holding the charge anymore -- which is a common problem with laptop batteries after a year or so of use.

It will get worse. The battery on my laptop only lasts 10 minutes (lol). Not much we can do except to get a new replacement battery.

Depending on the age of the laptop the battery could be dead. Usually laptop batteries only last a few years. Mine is 5 years old and only lasts 30 min now with full charge. As for it not charging while on....could be battery or a setting in your power schemes. Look at power schemes by right clicking on desktop > properties > power. Hope this helps.

OK battery is bad and laptop may be the type that does not charge while its on and then again it may be the battery read the flipping Manuel
